On the high plateau of the Loser in Altaussee lies the Augstsee. Especially popular with day trippers.
The view falls on the surrounding mountain massif deep into the Tote Gebirge and who likes it cold, takes a cool bath in the clear lake water.
Lake Augst is covered with snow and ice from November to mid-June. In the other months a circumnavigation is recommended.
A hike around the Augstsee is free of charge.
The ascent via Loser Panoramabahn or Loser Panoramastraße by car is subject to a fee.
